“Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you…” – John 6:27a
__________ God desires that each of His children prosper in every area of their lives and be in good health, but He also desires that our souls prosper, that we grow and mature in our spiritual life. Nothing will move, grow, advance, or be improved if there is no effort on the part of the man himself. If he makes no effort to improve the condition of his mind and soul, he will be an untransformed man, with an unnourished and unhealthy soul. This doesn’t mean we should make no effort to obtain the necessities of life or to pursue the desires of our heart, but rather, we should not make it a priority over taking care of our soul, that it becomes more important than taking care of our soul. While it may be important for you to pursue after the desires of your heart, you should be just as concerned with the state of your soul. The soul needs strength; it needs nourishment to keep it alive and from withering away. The only resource that can provide the soul with what it needs is the Bible – the Holy and Pure Word of God. It is spiritual food for our spiritual life. It has everything we need for sustenance. It is the meat, bread, and water the soul cannot live without. When you invest time in taking care of your soul and in growing in your relationship with God, you can expect that the end result will be a healthy and prosperous soul. ___________ By Gale Henderson.
