“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand” – Philippians 4:5
_______________ How much do you spend buying things you want or because you “gotta” have them? What things do you buy over and over again when you already have them? When does having “too much” of anything become “too much”? Paul the Apostle tells the church that we should not live a life of excess, extreme, or over-indulgence. But that the life of a believer should be with restraint or self-control, free from “too much,” that we may be examples of what is suitable and as becoming of a people who knows this temporary world is not their home, and therefore lives in expectation of their Savior’s return. This does not mean we should put ourselves on display for the world to see. But with character and humbleness, we should live in a way that would be visible to those of the world the possibility of living a godly and moderate life. If we know this world is just a temporary place of residence, then we must also realize that our time here in this temporary world could expire at any time; whether we are ready or not, works done or not. And for this reason, every believer in Christ ought to take heed to the wisdom given to us through God’s word in how we should live life in Christ; which is a godly, moderate lifestyle that is pleasing unto the Lord.
