•  I Peter 2:13-17 - Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

• Romans 13:1-2 - Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

•  Romans 13:3-4 - For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

•  Titus 3:1 - Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work...

When a person offends us or has caused us pain and suffering, it can make us feel distressed, disgusted and angry. It can even leave a burning desire to wanting to take matters into our hands in order to make sure the offender or the person who has hurt us pay for what they have done.

The word of God teaches us that it is ok to be angry. But as painful, hurtful and disgusted we may feel, it is not ok when anger leads to taking matters into our own hands - "Be you angry, and sin not” (Ephesians 4:26a).

God wants us to avoid vengeance against offenders and let Him take care of it - “"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, said the Lord” (Romans 12:19) .

Even when a person who has done wrong to you appear to be prospering or getting away with the dark deed they have done, it is still God’s job, and His job alone to punish offenders His way and in His own time. As hurtful and disgusted you may feel, I encourage you to be patient and wait on the Lord. Let him deal with those who have no other desire but to hurt and bring harm to others.
