"If a man love me, he will keep my words…” - John 14:23a.
When we are sincerely reading and examining the scriptures on a regular basis, leaning not unto our own understanding; we become familiar with the teachings of Christ. And because we are familiar with the teachings of Christ; we recognize when a person’s life is inconsistent with God’s word.
That person is therefore judged not by man; but by the scriptures, and by the fruits that are being produced from their life of disobedience, which clearly says, “I will disregard the teachings of Christ and live my life how I please.”
When you’ve decided to live by a different set of principles, other than those that have been set forth in God’s Holy Word for His people to live by; know that you are out of compliance and in contradiction of His Word.
Let’s put it another way - if we are specifically commanded through God’s Word to “not do” and we “do anyway,” or the other way around, how can we say we love Him, when we continuously disobey His Word to do things our way? Do you believe a man sincerely loves the Lord, when he chooses to continuously walk in contradiction of His word, instead of in compliance of His Word?
A sincere love for Christ will provoke a man to want to follow Him, to be attached to him, and to do all he can to obey His teachings, or be detached from Him; for how can two walk together accept they agree?
The truth of the matter is, if a man truly loves Jesus Christ the Son of God who sacrificed His precious life for all mankind; it will be shown in his obedience to Him; without any excuse, no matter where he is, and no matter who he keeps company with.
So, how much do you really love Him?
