“But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly” - Hebrews 11:16
Many people have dreams of buying a big beautiful house, but the dreams and desires of the old patriarchs was to dwell in the “big beautiful house in heaven.” They believed with all of their heart, mind and soul in a thing they had never seen, but believed that it existed.
These wandering and unsettled patriarchs regarded themselves as strangers and pilgrims who had no permanent home here in this world, and lived as such. Their eyes were always looking toward heaven with hopes to someday dwell in its mansions.
As we journey from day to day with Christ our Savior, we must remember that this place, this world of which we now live is not our permanent home. If we know this, then we understand that everything we do, and everything we accumulate here in this world should be for the cause of salvation.
We know that it is not about trying to “get, get, get.” We know that it is not about trying to appease and please ourselves. While we may be rich or poor in this poor, while we may live in beautiful or less beautiful homes, and while we may have many or limited friends - we are all here but for a moment.
Those who truly desire to dwell in the house of the Lord will make preparations to do all he or she can, to get to that promised place where our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is waiting for all of his friends to join him forever.
