“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” – Matthew 5:16
How many people have used their gifts and talents for the sole purpose of bringing honor to themselves, attract attention to themselves, win praises for themselves and to make themselves the main display? What about those who spend their time making sure they will look better than anyone else to gain attention all for themselves?
Doing, saying and wearing things for the purpose of drawing attention to yourself is not the way to go. Not once did our Savior Jesus Christ do anything with a motive to outshine, show out or show up someone else, and neither should we. These are things that are important to those in the world, but should not be what’s important to a believer in Christ.
Instead of striving to outshine others, strive to let your holy life shine to the praise, honor and glory of God, not the other way around. There’s no better compliment, then the compliment a person gets when they are told, “there is something about you, something that causes you to shine.”
Before you set out to do anything, ask yourself, is it with a right motive? Is it with the right intentions? Will I be drawing attention from Jesus who wants to use me to draw others unto Him? Or is it to outdo or outshine others?
If you truly have Christ abiding in you, then His light will be shining radiantly from within you, that it would have no other choice, but to be seen - And that’s a good thing!
