“Master, I will follow you wherever you go” – Matthew 8:19b
Think about these words for a minute – “I will follow you wherever you go”. Many believers in Christ have a sincere desire to follow Him in their new life. In fact, it is the commitment every believer makes when they accept Jesus as their personal savior. But often times, shortcuts in following Jesus are taken to avoid roads that look bumpy, dark and challenging.
Following Jesus means following him in every step he makes from the beginning of your journey to the end, walking and moving in the same direction he walks and moves, without hesitation, without fear and without excuse. It doesn’t mean taking shortcuts when the road ahead looks dark or bumpy and then meeting up with him at a different path when the road has become smooth and easily seen.
On the roads Jesus traveled during His life and ministry on earth, He endured much labor, working hard and long in an effort to finish his work. He never took any shortcuts, even when He knew His time had come to leave this world. When he knew danger was coming, He faced it with courage and confidence, knowing that the Father in Heaven was with Him.
As you continue your journey with Jesus, make sure you are following him in the same direction he is leading you, taking no shortcuts along the way. Wherever he goes, you go! Wherever He leads you, follow Him. Trust Him in every step of your journey, he won’t lead you astray.
Stay the course and keep your eyes on Jesus.
