"But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof" - Romans 13:14
Living in luxury and in excessive indulgence is the ultimate purpose in life for many people. Their minds are set on nothing else other than making it their business to get more than they need to serve the desires of their flesh, and to prolong the means of their excessive indulgence.
This should not be the mind of a believer in Christ. We should not make it an ultimate purpose in life to making provisions for the gratification of the flesh. Christians should labor for the things that are necessities for living in this world, but not things specifically for gratifying the flesh. We are to be a separate, distinguished nation of people who are influenced by a higher and purer desire than that of the natural man, who serves his sensual gratification.
If you are spending your time and energy serving your flesh, now more than ever is the time to rethink your purpose in life. While time is at hand and our salvation is nearer than when we first believed, pleasing your flesh should not be the ultimate purpose of your life here in this world, especially since we do not know how much time we have left in this world.
Follow Jesus’ principles, example and way of life. Make it your ultimate purpose in life to use your time and energy to do and finish the work God has called you to do, and to secure the inheritance that is waiting for you in the heavenly world.
