"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent” - Acts 17:30
When you are deeply and sincerely sorrow for something you’ve done, that thing will affect you. It will make you feel like your inside has been broken into pieces, especially when you realize that it was God you offended.
Repentance involves the acknowledgment and sincere confession of your sins, that you are guilty of disobeying the law of God – “Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight” (Psalm 51:4a). It is with a heart that is deeply affected by a sin committed, that it has no further desire to continue in sin.
Under the new covenant, it is required that all men must repent of their sins, and it must be done in accordance with God’s conditions. There is no way around it – “And Jesus said unto them… repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24:46a & 47). A willingness to repent of your sins as God requires, is a willingness to do whatever it takes to remain in a true relationship with Him.
The good news is, when we do sincerely and sorrowfully confess our sins, “The Lord is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9b).
Maintain a true and sincere relationship with the Father in Heaven doing all He requires, as He requires it to be done – even repentance of your transgressions.
