"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment” – Matthew 22:36-38
Jesus gave us the secret to developing a close and sincere relationship with God, words of wisdom which goes back to the old testament scriptures.
“And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” – Deuteronomy 6:5
This commandment is the greatest in the sense that it is the first and most important commandment of all, because this commandment is the primary source and reason to which a believer in Christ will submit to all other commandments. When there is a willingness to love God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your soul; there will be a willingness to submit to all of the other commandments.
Loving God with all of your heart, with all of your mind and with all of your soul is to put him at the center of all you do, in every area of your life. It is to totally surrender and submit to His teachings.
Many Christians hold back from totally surrendering their life to Christ, and yet claim they truly and sincerely love God. If God is truly Lord over your life, then he will be at the center of everything in your life, with no limits to only being in certain parts of your life.
If we can't love God with our all here in this world, how can we love him with our all in the heavenly world?
