“Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you…” – I Peter 4:4
Accepting Christ into your life should be a time family, friends and others would want to help you celebrate. You’ve just turned over a new leaf, you’re starting a new life with new principles to live by. Instead, you are criticized, hated, and even abandoned by love ones and friends.
They think you are foolish for leaving the pleasures of the world, and delusive in hoping for a future life with a Savior they believe do not exist.
Here’s what you must understand - The world’s response of your connection to Christ will not always be honored, welcomed or celebrated. A man who has never had an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, will not understand the impact and impression He has made on your life. He will not understand the excitement, enthusiasm and eagerness for the things of God you now have.
You may be criticized and hated, but you are not the first. Our Savior Jesus Christ was also hated by those in the world. If they hated Him, we who are connected to Him cannot expect that they will love us.
But in spite of all this, you must not let it discourage you from the work you must do. Jesus did not let opposition, sarcastic words, threats or persecution discouraged Him from his work. He kept moving forward until he reached the finish line. And so should we.
Live your life with Christ. Don’t stop, don’t turn back, don’t even look back. Keep pressing forward toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
