"If a man love me, he will keep my words…” - John 14:23a.
How do we know when a person who claim to be a born again Christian is not walking in obedience of God’s word?
When you are sincerely reading and examining the scriptures on a regular basis, leaning not unto your own understanding, you become familiar with the teachings of Christ. And so, because you are familiar with the teachings of Christ, you recognize when a person’s life is inconsistent with God’s word.
That person is judged by the scriptures and by the fruits that are being produced from their life of disobedience, which clearly says, “I will disregard God’s word and do things my way.”
Let’s put it another way - if in God’s word He says “don’t do it” and you “do it anyway”, how are you living a life of obedience to God when you’ve decided to live by a different set of principles, other than those that have been set forth in His Holy Word for His people to live by?
Anytime you choose to do things your way when you are told to do it a certain way, you are out of compliance and in contradiction of an order or command that was given to you. And this “sir” or “ma’am” does not please our Father in Heaven. Jesus said, “if a man love me, he will keep my words.”
So now, the ultimate question is, do you sincerely believe you can walk in contradiction of God’s word, and yet declare you love the Lord? How can this be? Because if you truly love Him, it will be shown in your obedience to Him without hesitation and excuse.
