Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous" - I John 3:7
Many people claim they are living right. But when compared to the standards God has outlined in His word, they are far from it.
If we follow the command “walk upright” and “be ye holy” from the Old Testament to the New Testament, we can see it existed throughout the whole Bible. Nothing changed, neither did our Father in Heaven – “For I am the LORD, I change not… (Malachi 3:6a). His character had not changed, His ways had not changed and His word had not changed. Therefore, what He has always required of His people throughout history and for all generations still stands.
What is it that He requires of His people to do? To reverence Him, to love Him with all your heart and soul, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments which He commands for our good. That means we must walk right and do what’s right in His presence. We must be holy, as He Himself is holy!
You cannot live contrary to God’s Word and yet be a true child of God – not so! The man who leads a holy life and does what is right, is the man who is a righteous man according to the Word of God. And it is this man whom we encourage today to be strong and of good courage, to continue doing what is right despite the wrong doings of others.
Since He has shown us what is right in comparison to what is wrong, and what is light in comparison to what is darkness, let no man persuade you otherwise. Stand firm in doing what’s right.
