“Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?” - John 6:67
_______________ In the synagogue at Capernaum, Jesus had spoken of himself being the true bread of life sent down from heaven by which man can live, revealing that he was superior to Moses. “Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world” – John 6:32-33 The Jews, after hearing these words were offended and began to murmur among themselves, because they did not understand what Christ was saying. Among those who were murmuring, were his own disciples, who as a result left him, and turned back to follow the teachings of other doctrines. While man has been called on to believe in the doctrines of Christ, many are instead offended by it. Rather than making an effort to understanding the words of Christ, and then to trust in his words; they choose to draw back into perdition. In response to those who had left him, Jesus ask the remaining disciples…”will you also go away?” Will you stay and listen to the doctrines of which I have been given by my Father to give unto you (John 17:8)? This is the question every professing believer of Christ must ask themselves: will you walk away from the faith when things become too difficult for you to understand? Acting as the spokesman for the remaining disciples of Christ, Simon Peter’s response to Jesus’ was…”Lord, to whom shall we go?” They knew who their teacher was, they knew he was the Messiah, the Son of God. They were not willing to walk away, they were going to stay. Whatever they did not understand, to them it was no reason to walk away from the only bread that can keep their soul alive. If you are considering leaving the faith, ask yourself this - Where can a man go after being under the teachings of Christ? Where can a man go for the redemption of his soul? What other well can your soul drink from and never be thirsty? Where can he go to get the same benefits and opportunity they have under Christ? No one else, in any other place, in any other group or sect can give or promise what the Father in Heaven has for those who come unto Him, through His Son Jesus, the Savior. In addition to this, you will be lost without the guidance of God, and your soul will starve without the true bread from heaven. It is not always going to be easy to understanding passages in the bible. But, the apostle James gives us a solution to this challenge. He said, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God" (James 1:5). If you do not understand what God is saying in his word, or what is being asked of you to do through his word - pray about it, ask him for wisdom and spiritual understanding (Colossians 1:9). On many occasions, even the disciples of Christ ask for understanding in matters they could not comprehend. “Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?” – Matthew 15:15-16 Once you have asked God for help, patiently follow the leading of his spirit as he guides you through his word. As you faithfully continue to do this, you will not only begin to understand the meaning of God's word, many amazing and profound things will also be made known. But, if you are still having difficulty in understanding the Word of God, ask God to lead you to someone he knows and trust to help you. _______________ SUPPORTING SCRIPTURES ______________
