He “And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine” – Matthew 22:33
“And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?” – Matthew 13:54
“And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers” – Luke 2:47
How was it that Jesus always knew what to say in any situation? How was it that He knew how to speak “an in season word? It was not because it was imparted to Him by human teachers, nor was it because He went to any school to be trained as a public speaker.
Jesus was able to communicate so well, and with timely words because he was taught by His Father in Heaven. He would voluntarily make the sacrifice to rise early in the mornings to meet with His Father in prayer; to talk with Him, to be taught by Him, and to receive instructions for the work He was to do in the day ahead. He was always ready and prepared for the day ahead with “an in season word” to instruct, comfort and encourage the people.
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed” – Mark 1:35
He was distinguished from all others with intelligence and eloquence to speak “an in season word” to the weary, wounded and His disciples; that the very words He spoke were astonishing to the ears of those who heard Him.
There has never been, nor will there ever be anyone who is so well qualified to instruct, comfort and encourage as our Savior. But we can follow His example. We can be “trained and prepared” to speak “an in season word.” We can make the sacrifice to rise early and meet with the Father in Heaven for instructions as to where we should go, what we should do, and to whom we should speak “an in season word.”
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way” – Psalm 37:23
Before you head out into the world, before you begin to dive into the daily issues of life, take the time to place yourself under the teaching of the Holy Spirit, to learn what is required of you, and the “in season word” the Lord would have you to speak.
Take the time to even learn how to respond to mischief, confusion starters and instigators, should you be confronted by any during your day. Rather than responding with vindictive and quarrelsome words, the Holy Spirit can teach us how to properly respond with suitable and timely words, that are peaceful, yet powerful and persuasive, that it will confound the face of your enemy; because it was not what they expected.
“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD” – Proverbs 16:1
“Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” - Luke 21:14-15
If our Lord and Savior found it necessary to meet with the Father in the mornings before going out into the world, how much more important would it be for you to take the time before you go out, to find out from the Lord His agenda for your day?
“Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teaches thee to profit, which leads thee by the way that thou should go” – Isaiah 48:17
“And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goes down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert” – Acts 8:26
Do you know what the Lord would have you to do today? Where would He have you to go, and to whom He would have you to speak “an in season word?”
