The church of our Savior Jesus Christ could not come into existence until after Christ's death, resurrection, ascension, and sending of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2 records the coming of the Holy Spirit, which marked the beginning of the church in fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy and promises.
Matthew 16:18 – “And I say also unto you, That you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Christ’s church is not a building or organization. Christ’s church consists of a collective body of people from all nationalities, culture and color - whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, who have received Christ into their life as the one and only true Savior of a man’s soul, and as the one and only way to eternal life.
John 14:6 - Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 - Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
I Peter 2:9-10 – “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
