Drunkenness results in a diminished ability to think clearly and make wise decisions. It is the abuse of alcohol. Temperance is moderation and self-control from indulgence or over-excess of anything, such as alcohol.
The influences of the Holy Spirit on the heart will cause a man to be moderate in all his indulgences, teach him to restrain his desires and govern himself, and give him the strength to subdue all immoderate desires.
